RESOLUTION APPROVING IMPLEMENTATION
OF 2020 COMPENSATION STUDY AND
ESTABLISHING COMPENSATION GRID
AND CLASSIFICATION TABLE
WHEREAS, in 2019, the City Council authorized City management to conduct a full
compensation and classification study (the “Study”) to ensure the City is paying competitive
and fair wages to its employees; and
WHEREAS, on January 7, 2020 the City contracted with David Drown Associates,
Inc. (“DDA”) to conduct the Study; and
WHEREAS, DDA and City staff collected compensation data from comparable
cities, analyzed each staff member’s job description and responsibilities, and completed a
comprehensive analysis of the City’s pay in comparison to the market; and
WHEREAS, after a thorough analysis, the study proposed a new classification
structure, assigned new pay grades to each classification, and placed each position into
the new structure; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed the Study and wishes to implement the
changes recommended in the Study.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Golden
Valley, Minnesota, that:
1.The City Council authorizes staff to implement the compensation study within the
approved 2021 budget and adjust staff salaries accordingly.
