The meeting was called to order at 6:30pm by Chair Weiswerda.

3.LandAcknowledgmentStatement
Chair Weiswerda shared the Land Acknowledgment Statement with the Commission.Commissioner
Wright requested more information and history on the land acknowledgment. Staff memberBirno
said he will requestinformation and forward to Commissioner Wright.
4.Introduction of Summer Intern Colin Trudgeon
Staff member Birno introduced Summer Intern Colin Trudgeon. Colin shared some background
information on himself. He said he is working closely with John Stutzman and Madeline Champa on
youth programs and will be with Golden Valley until late August.

6.Approval of Minutes–May 23, 2022
MOTION moved by CommissionerWrightand seconded by CommissionerDelaneyto approve the
May 23, 2022meeting minutes. Motion carried unanimously.
7.Wildwood Park Storm Water Project Update
Staff member Birno sharedthetwoworking design concepts. Staff at Robbinsdale schools are now
concerned about the redesign proposal for the exit area out of the school parking lot. Robbinsdale
staff has requested that the exit area not be changed and stay in its current configuration,which has
a significant impact on the initial design plan. Golden Valley staff is currently workingwith District
281staff on options and compromises for the project design.

Commissioners shared their thoughts and concerns:
-Appropriate neighborhood input on design and location of play structure
-Neighborhood access limitations
-Long-term maintenance of play structure
- Safe crosswalk areas from school to play structure
-Other amenities close to the new play structure area
-Overall frustration with the late changes requested by District 281 staff
Birno said he will share more information as it becomes available.
8. Bassett Creek Streambank Stabilization
Staff memberBirno shared information on the stabilization needed for a portion of the Bassett
Creek streambank running though Brookview Golf Course from a storm water washout. He said
the project will be a partnership with the Bassett Creek Water Shed District and is scheduled for
implementation this winter.
9. 2023-2032 Proposed Park Capital Improvement Budget Review
Staff member Birno shared the 2023-2032 proposed capital improvement budget and answered
questions from the Commissioners. Commissioners recommended staff move forward with the
proposed Park CIP budget.
10. Commission and Staff Updates
a.Updates
-Commissioner Weiswerda asked about recycling bins at the Brookview pavilions. Birno said he
would check with Al Lundstrom, Park Maintenance Superintendent, and get back to him.
- Commissioner Mattison said the Challenge Course at Schaper Park has a lot of goose feces
and that it’s a real problem at that location.
b. Summer Programs Adjusted Due to Staffing Issues
Birno said Parks and Recreation staff had to adjust some of the summer programs to
accommodate the staffing shortage this season.
c. Park Maintenance Adjusted Due to Staffing Issues
Birno said Park Maintenance has also had to adjust services due to staffing issues.
d. Pedestrian Crossing Addition and Update at Winnetka (Western and Harold)
Birno said the pedestrian crossings on Winnetka at Western and Harold are approved to move
forward.
e. Bike and Pedestrian - Zane/Lindsay Letter
Commission members requested clarification on the proposed changes for bike and pedestrian
lanes on the Zane/Lindsey project. Birno will research and report back at the July meeting.
f. South Tyrol Park Improvements
Birno shared an update on the South Tyrol Park improvements. The old play structure has been
removed, the new sandbox area has been added, both the new play structure and the new
gazebo are in process, asphalt work will take place this fall, and the volleyball court will be
constructed in-house.

g. Rink Replacement Installation at Medley Park
Birno said staff is working with Sentenced to Serve (STS) to contract installation services for
the outdoor hockey rink at Medley Park.
h. Golf Course Irrigation Project
Birno said the project is going very well and ahead of schedule. He said golfers have also been
very patient.
i.Next Regular Scheduled OSRC Meeting is on Monday, July 25, 2022
Birno reminded the Commission the next regular OSRC meeting is on Monday, July 25, 2022
at 6:30 pm at Brookview.

MOTION moved by Commissioner Sanders and seconded by Commissioner Cornelius to adjourn at
8:20 pm. Motion carried unanimously.
