Commissioner Paradise highlighted the attendance, positive participant engagement and networking. Commissioner Paradise wants to maintain momentum of this event in the realm of housing by creating more advocacy opportunities and having another forum in 2023. Communications Subcommittee Inclusive Calendar Commissioner Paradise suggested the City having two calendars – one public facing and one internal facing. Each calendar would list holidays and observances but the internal facing calendar would also list recommendations for holding community convenings or how to convene community respectfully and responsively during the observance. The rest of the commission agreed with that strategy but wants to do more research about which observances to include. Commissioners brought up several examples from other institutions including neighboring public-school districts. Welcoming Residents Commissioner Paradise suggested creating a webpage and community events instead of a welcoming packet. Staff Update New Commissioner Equity and Inclusion Manager Zackery informed commission of newly appointed member and potential start date. Commission Interview Question Equity and Inclusion Manager Zackery led a brainstorming discussion to develop an interview question for the Council to ask prospective DEI Commissioners. Commissioner Luo and Chair Allen advocated for the Commission to have representation during the interview process to ensure the Commission is more representative of the community. Chair Allen asserted that the Commission has more in depth knowledge of the workplan and areas of needed intention to support her thoughts. Commissioner Mitchell suggested the question “what would make the interview process more equitable?” for the interview process. The Commissioners agreed. Equity and Inclusion Manager Zackery will forward the question on to Executive Assistant Olmo. Adjournment MOTION to adjourn at 7:52 pm by Commissioner Thoresen, seconded by Commissioner Luo.
