Minutes of the July 14th, 1997 Meeting
Golden Valley City Offices, Council Conference Room

Members Absent: Bob Blenkush, Jay Hoffman, Joyce Doerfiler, Elissa Heilicher, Bob Lang
Meeting was called to order at 7:04PM by Sharon Mattison
Minutes: Hilmer Erickson moved and Duane Wosje seconded the motion to approve the minutes of June
9th, 97. Passed unanimously.
Home Free Shelter Presentation by Nita Quinn.(545-7072)
Program was established in 1984 and Golden Valley as well as 3 other cities joined together to provide
guaranteed funding. Cities share in $90,000 contribution of a total $156,000 budget. Eachcity
contributes based on a formula comprised of usage and service. Golden Valley contributes $20,500.
Home Free Shelter handles approximately 50 domestic violence cases in Golden Valley. Total program
serves 500 women and children annually with an average of 19 days stay in the shelter. They currently
turn away 2 people for every 1 that is helped. Staff is 9 full time paid and many volunteers. Future
initiatives will be focused on the partnership and referrals from North Memorial Hospital, education of
judges and probation officers, youth training and education on domestic abuse and parental counseling
and assistance especially for men.
Golf Tournament: The group stuffed brochures and secured labels for a mailing to the Brookview patron
list. Still accepting hole sponsors. Lunch contribution still undecided. Sue to follow up on sponsor fee
submission and golf participants. Sharon reported on the Lilac Open and logistics of tournament
operation. Registration and volunteer assignments will be determined.
Walk Run Event: Sue will call Bob Lang regarding T-Shirt printing and availability for the event. We
still need sponsors for morning coffee, juice and rolls. Sue will check on the drink bottles given away at
the Open House.
The next scheduled meeting is August 11th.
Robbin Rouillard moved adjournment at 8:25 PM and was seconded by Hilmer Erickson. The motion
passed unanimously.
