Monday, February 26, 2007

1. CALL TO ORDER
Sandler called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
11. ROLL CALL
Present: Roger Bergman, Bob Mattison, Roger McConico, Jerry Sandler, Jim Vaughan, Tom Zins, Rick
Jacobson, Director of Park and Recreation; Jeanne Fackler, Senior Citizen Coordinator; and Sheila
Van Sloun, Administrative Assistant.
Absent: Jim Johnson and Kelly Kuebelbeck.
111. AGENDA CHANGES OR ADDITIONS
None.
IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES —January 22, 2007
MOTION: Moved by Vaughan and seconded by McConico to approve the January 22nd meeting minutes.
Motion carried unanimously.
V. RECREATION REPORT — Jeanne Fackler
Fackler gave details on senior groups, classes and programs she coordinates and is involved with. She
explained that she has updated a few program names and adjusted some programs to draw more interest.
She said she's been expanding her cooperative programs to eliminate duplicate destinations between
neighboring cities. She added that chaperones can then be shared.
Fackler said her one -day Meandering With Mary trips are well attended.
Fackler also explained her role with the Golden Valley Human Services Foundation. She talked about the
upcoming Run the Valley Race/Walk on April 10. She said upcoming events include the Golf Classic in
September and the Taste of Golden Valley in November.
Vaughan asked how the Human Service Foundation generates revenue. She said years ago the Foundation's
revenue was mostly from pull tabs, now with pull tab sales down, fund raisers have been increased.
Fackler showed the Commission the new coffee mugs that will be for sale at Brookview Community Center
and City Hall. She explained the proceeds will be split between the Golden Valley Human Services
Foundation and the future Performing Arts Center in Brookview Park.
McConico asked if there is a program that helps seniors with house/yard work. Fackler said H.O.M.E.
Northwest, which is housed at PRISM, matches paid and unpaid workers with seniors for those types of
services.
VI. PARK AND RECREATION FACILITY STUDY SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS
A. Comprehensive Plan
Jacobson explained the Council is considering consulting contracts for various chapters of the
Comprehensive Plan. Sandler added he feels consultants are necessary at times and hopes the Council will
consider them.
Sandler asked the Commission to go through the Comprehensive Plan and become familiar with it for
future use.
B. Survey Results
1. Youth Athletic Association Survey
Mattison said three of the five associations have been surveyed. Chuck Cahill will be making
arrangements to complete the surveys.
2. OSRC Park Planning Citizen Survey
No update to report.
VII. OLD BUSINESS
A. Deer Task Force Update
Jacobson said the Deer Management Program met its objective this year. He also said with the snow cover,
another aerial survey would be possible.
Sandler added there is an ongoing task force management plan in place now that staff will monitor.
B. Regional Trail Update
Jacobson said the complications along Country Club Road have been resolved and construction in the
spring will be moving ahead.
C. Brookview Performance Area
Jacobson said the committee is in the process of trying to raise funds and have been exploring the
possibility of a professional fund raiser.
Vill. NEW BUSINESS
Sandler said there will not be a March meeting, unless a joint meeting is scheduled with the Environmental
and Planning Commissions. He said the next meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 23ra

unanimously.
