PARK BOARD
Village of Golden Valley, Mar. 14, 1957 •
The je�,}�].ar meeting of the Park Board was held at the village Hall on
Marc --viii 197, at 7:30 p.m. The meeting was held with the Village
Planning Commission. All members of the Park Board were present,
namely, Ostroot, Stockman, Chapman, Gustafson associate, and Robt.
Corwine, landscape architect employed by the Park Board.
Stockman in his introductory remarks to the Planning Commission, stated
the Park Board had completed its survey and was presenting its program
to the Commission to determine if there were any areas of conflict so
they could be eliminated or taken care of before taking it up wi'-h the
Village Council. He stated that the Board was asking approval in
principal, that we wanted approval ofthe need for acquisitioh and
development, and we sought coordinated effort after the council acts
for a bond issue for these purposes. It wa s sugffested that we
welcomed information and help in locating parks or areas.
Corwine presented the plan and survey in detail, covering the factors
considered in a well-rounded and thought-out long-range plan for the
village, and pointed out it excluded large metropolitan, county, city
and nearby parks of our nei hbors, since such developments being
available in part to our people need not be duplicated by the village.
His emphasis was on local or neighborhood playgrounds and recreational
areas and other scenic local areas. He reviewed the topography,
the present areas, existing facilities, the schools, and adjoinging
suburban cooperation possibilities, land -uses (park -like, commercial,
industrial, residential, and parks) and Traffic flow, etc.
After questions and answers, and discussion had, the Planning commission
by motion duly made, seconded and unanimously carried, approved the
Survey and Plans of the Park Board, ani expressed a special xztxx
commendation to the Park Board and its architect, and requested the
privilege of using the plans of the Park Board for its own uses, stating
that the village hae never had so complete and excellent a review of
prelsent and future needs, and projection of population rowth and
future development by areas. It requested a lias w ing with the
