Village of Golden Valley
April 29, 1957
A special meeting of the Park Board was called by Pres. Ostroot at
12 noon on April 29, 1957 at Marquette are 11th sts. Present were
Ostroot, Stockman, Chapman and Corwine, architect.
Discussion centered about the coming bond issue election on May 6.
Mr. Corwine present proposed news releases, includin7 a write-up on
Parks, which was reviewed and revised by the members. Mr. Corwine
reported he would see the Suburban Press about the chances of an
editorial on the Parks in the comirja issue prior to election.
He also reviewed the citizen interest aspect of the election and the
possibility of purblicizing some of the views of citizens in the press
regarding the parks and bond issue election questions, as informational
matter. He has been contacted dnd will contact citize about this.
Discussion was had concerning Corwine's furt er Xch*-ectural duties
and services but no action was taken.

A special meetin7 of the Park Board was held May 8, 1957 at 8 P.M., at
the c4ll of Pres. Ostroot in conjunction with the Suburban group tDark
meeting called by Mrssrs Doell and Dhainin at Columbia Manor.
Present for the Park Board were Ostroot, Stockman and Chapman, also
Mr. Corwine, landscape architect. The Suburban Group meeting included
a presentation by Mr. Doell covering the Metropolitan Planning legislation,
the Metropolitan Park kzJft Law and amendment, and reports by Stockman on
the Golden Valley Park Referendum and by Cliff French on EdiaW s progress
since their election. Other comments were made by Robbinsdale, Bloomington,
and other areas. On request of Mr Reuper, Chapman reported on status of
activation of County Park Commission which is expected shortly by the
County D oard after one or two suburbs add their support to the measure.

Stockman reported that the Golden Valley Park Bond Referendum w
defeated by a vote of 1476 to 911. The 911 vote for Parks in his view
was good considering that it was more than the total vote cast in the
December flection for councilmen in the Village. He reported that the
Village Hall referendum lost by a vote of 1987 to 411 for $450,000
construction funds, which was about 5 to 1, whereas the parks lost by
3 to 2. He explained what the $200,000 was intended for. Many questions
from the floor showed keen interest by the other suburbs in the
problem confronting Gold&n galley Park Board and its needs, and
many offered helpful sug?estions for the next bond election or
such other action as might be required or taken.
Chapman invited the Suburban Troup to hold its next m etin7 at the
(',olden Valley Villa7e Hall, in the fall of ps October, and
this was immediately accepted.
