7-10-1957, 8-14-1957, 8-19-1957199 Minutes of Remular Meeting of Park Board of Golden Valley, July 10, 1957• The regular monthly meeting of the Park Board of the Village of Golden Valley was held July 10, 1957 at the Villaae Hall. Present were Ostroot and Stockman xxdx2kxxmxxY* and Robt Corwino, architect. Lbsent Chapman. Also present were Rollie Hendrickson, Chairman of acitizens volunteer committee on villaffe parks, and Mrs.Tlary Lateral. The meeting was called to order by Mr. Ostront. The reading of the minutes was waived on motion duly seconded and carried Discussion was had about future work and development of parks for the village. Chairman Hendrickson of the Citizens committee invited the members of the Park Bm rd to attend a'special meeting of his committee at his home the following week. On motion duly made, seconded and carried, it was decided to install the swine set purchased in 1956 for Scheid park in a location to be designated by _,rchitect Corwine, the purchase price including the installation thereof by the Supplier, Crowley Fence Co.x� The SRA re4uested use of Scheid Park for the annual archery tourney. Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried permission was granted to SRA to conduct its annual archery tournament at Scheid Park July 312 1957 Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, the X41 repair bill for repairs to the backstop at Papoose Park where a young girl had recently been injured was approved for payment. The Chairman reported the injury was not serious and that he had furnished the required reports to the insurance carrier in this matter. It was reported that the neighbors in the rllenview Terrace park area had graded and levelled the park and asked the Park Board to furnish grass seed therefor. On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the purchase of approximately $90 worth of special park mix grass seed was authorized from Homedale Nursery for this park area, and the neic,hbors in that park area agreed to plant said grass and maintain the same. mineral discussion following relating to the need of the future services of.Rob't Corwine, Park Consultant. On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the park board resolved to request the village council to providek $175.00 per month for the balance of the calendar year compensation for sefvices of Robert Corwine, park architect and consultant. Act.' g secretary Attest:�4L �4,4� Minutes of Regular Meeting of Park Board of Golden Valley, August, 14, 1957 The regular meeting of the Park Board of Golden Valley was held at the temporary village hal; quarters, 8030 Olson Blvd., at 7:30 P.M. on August 14, 1957.- Present were Ostroot, Chairman, and Chapman. Absent Stockman. Also present were Rob't Corwine and MIr Ken Martin. Wallace Gustafson appeared during the course of the meeting. The minutes of the prior meeting were read, and on motion duly made, seconded an -1 carried were approved. In view of lack of funds anrd 2 economic impropriety of such construction at this time, it was concluded that the Sec. be instructed to write Mrs. Mutterer that we have her request in mind batt are unable to do anything until means afe available, if plans then should permit. The Chairman reported on an informational citizens meeting held at the Hendrickson home on July 31 relating to inquitiis of the survey and park plans by various civic groups and organizations seeking to promote' park ideas for the village. The Chairman reported on several options that he had secured from members of. the Scheid Family, being 4 options for a total of 5.46 acres for X85 option cost, options running to Sept 19 1957 for various tracts possible to be added to Scheid Park so as to have access and adequate park area for playground development: These options it was reported had been presented to the Village Planning Commission Aug 8, 1957 And met with unanimous approval as to proposed use for park purposes. Chairman also reported that Aug 20 1957 the Village Council will meet aryl the options are scheduled to be presented to the village for approval and purchase by contract or otherwise as may be appropriate, and at which time the Park Board also will request the Council to hire the professional services of Robert Corwine for the rest of the year at $175 per month to aid the Board. On motion of Chapman, duly seconded and carried, it was resolved that the 4 Scheid options be presented to the Village Council August 20 for approval and purchase by the Village for park purposes. The Chairman reported that 2 blocks of land on the Creek bottom between Noble Ave and 4est to Regent were being possible offered to the Village for possible park use @�t no cost, according to information from Don Sorenson, the engineer. It was state,? no sewer assessment had been spread against the area because it was condidered the village would take the area. It was described as a narrow strip 150 feet wide to be left in its natural state as a bird sanctuary and scenic area. It was moved, seconded and carried .that RobT Corwine be requested to follow up and investigate the desireabilityy of the area for village or park uses and its fitting into the plan. The Chairman also reported a tentative offar by a developer (Fred Jones) of about 8 acres of land in the vicinity 66uth of Hampshire Drive and East of Kelly Drive with certain provisions not yet firmed up, as a donation to the village. On motion duly made, seconded and carried, it was resolved thatRobt Corwine be instructed to ir_vestigage the feasibility of fitting this area into proper village uses, especially park, and to determine if this area may be tbo far East from the areas needed to be served. It was also reported that Ogden Confer suggested that the Village may have a chance for outlot No. One, 'Westchester, for park purposes, and it was also moved, seconded and carried that Corwine be requested to examine into this and see if it fits oursprogram and to report on this also to the Park Board at the next regular meeting./% There being no further business, the meeting ad,tu ed.
