2-16-1976SPECIAL MEETING GOLDEN VALLEY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION February 16, 1976 A special meeting of the Golden Valley Park and Recreation Commission was held on Monday, February 17, 1976, at 11:30 a.m. at the Brookview Community Center, 8200 Wayzata Blvd., Golden Valley, Minnesota. Chairman Petersen presided and the following members were present: Brown, Duebner, Gergen, Hammer, Jaffe; members absent, Kelby, King and Courey. Also present were John L. Brenna, Director of Parks and Recreation, Rosemary Thorsen, Council person, and Gertrude Peterson, secretary. WEED ORDINANCE Chairman Petersen stated that the Open Space Committee had requested that certain properties within the City of Golden Valley be designated as exempt from the restriction of the Weed Ordinance, Section 660:00. After discussion, it was moved by Gergen and seconded by Brown that certain properties within the City of Golden Valley be designated as exempt from mowing provisions of said Weed Ordinance, Section 660:00 for the purpose of maintaining natural appearance, protecting wild life, and providing food for wildlife. Motion carried. After further discussion, it was moved by Duebner and seconded by Brown, that the Commission recommends that the City Council consider the following areas as exempt from mowing provisions of the Weed Ordinance: 1. Briarwood Bird and Wildlife Sanctuary 2. Rice Lake Park 3. Strawberry Pond (central corridor and north section of North Tyrol Park) 4. Pennsylvania Woods 5. Wildwood Park (natural area) 6. Bassetts Creek Park 7. Westwood Lake (natural area) 8. Honeywell Pond 9. Western Avenue Marsh 10. Bassetts Creek Plaza (trail easement area) X22 Park and Recreation Commission page two 11. Sigrud Olson School (natural area) 12. Valle d Or (area under PUD designated as natural area 13. East portion of Kings Valley 14. MS&S duck nesting area Motion carried. 1972 BOND ISSUE REPORT Mr. Brenna completed his presentation of the 1972 Bond Issue and Trail report.
