1-22-1979REGULAR MEETING GOLDEN VALLEY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION January 22, 1979 A regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to order at 8:05 p.m. by Burt Brown, Chairman. Minutes of the November 27, 1978, meeting were approved as printed. Members present: Brown, Jaffe, King, Petersen, Riley and Hammer. OLD BUSINESS Recreation Sub Committee: Discussion of the December 4, 1978, presentation to the Council regarding the recreation report prepared by the Recreation Sub Committee and council reaction. Involvement by Commission members in recreation policy can be undertaken now, but there is need to decide what is the next logical step. Needs assessment favored by Council members, but how to go about it requires some thought on the part of the Commission members. Decisions will be made regarding vehicle for the assessment at the next meeting. HCD Recommendation for playground at Dover Hills: Discussion of report in paper regarding this item and concern of some Commission members about it. Riley moved and King seconded that the Park and Recreation Commission request the Council to clarify and give further explanation of the Housing and Community Development recommendations to build a playground on the Dover Hill site, with reference to the possible responsibility and involvement in this project by both the Commission and the Park and Recreation Department. Motion carried. A communication will be forwarded to the Council members regarding this along with the minutes of the November 27, 1978, meeting. Laurel Avenue Landscaping: Up date on the project — areas has been re—seeded. NEW BUSINESS Brookview Tennis Courts: Proposal to generate revenue and provide reser— vation service for residents. David Latvaaho presented a proposal concerning this, and Petersen moved and Jaffe seconded that the Commission recommend the Council accept the proposal for reservations and charges for the Brookview tennis courts. An addition to the proposal are these figures regarding possible costs and income, as well as miscellaneous items of information: Miscellaneous items relevant to this proposal: 1. salary for 1 staff person will be $3.00 per hour 2. potential court use: 64 hours/week, 12 weeks per season 768 hours x 6 courts = 4,608 court hours 3. inventory worth $500 to $750 for the tennis building 4. staff estimates that 25/ of the 4,608 court hours will be sold 5. program will be re—evaluated by the Park and Recreation Commission at their July meeting 6. program will run June through August Park and Recreation Commission page two Community/Senior Citizen Center Report: 1. Community center recommendation was examined and discussed at length — film on recommendation was also viewed. 2.
