4-28-1986it OPEN SPACE AND RBCREATICN C ONMI SS IC N April 28, 1986 Members present: Rick Groger, Chuck Burmeister, Jim Johnson, George Murad, Claudia Fuglie, Rick Jacobson, Sharyl Thompson, Sandy Coughlin. The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM. Minutes A motion was made by Chuck Burmeister and seconded by George Murad to accept the minutes of March 31, 1986 as read. Motion carried. Sandy Cbughlin - Babe Ruth President Rick Jacobson introduced Sandy Coughlin, President of Babe Ruth Baseball, to the Commission. Sandy explained the Babe Ruth program which includes youth, ages 13-15 years old. The Mickey Mantle division is for 16 year olds, and the Senior Babe Ruth is for youth 17 years and up. All games are played at Sandburg Junior High. This year Golden Val ley wi 11 host the junior tournament, and possibly a tournament for the 14 and 15 year olds. Aquestion was asked from the Commission if the batting cage has cut down on the complaints from residents of baseballs coming into their yards, and Sandy replied that this problem has been cut down drastically. The biggest problem facing the Babe Ruth program is that of finding players, as well as volunteers to help run it. The Commission expressed appreciation to Sandy for her years of dedicated work with the Babe Ruth program. S i dem l k CXmni t tee Appointment A memo from Mayor Mary Anderson had been received by the Commission members asking for volunteers to serve on a Sidewalk program for the City. George Murad and Rick Groger agreed to serve. Brookview Inprovements Committee Rick Jacobson explained to contractor for golf carts. the Commission the problemwith the original It was necessary to cancel the contract with _ as several items specified in the contract were not kept by the contractor. Pool Umnittee Chuck Burmeister reviewed the last Pool Committee meeting which was atten- ded by the architect, Ed Kodet from Kodet Architectural Group. The Com- mittee specified what they would like to see in a facility and Mr. Kodet will come back to the Committee with sketches. The Pool Committee meets the second Monday of each month. Meeting dates for 1986 are: May 19, June 9, July 14, August 11, September 8, October 13, November 10, and December 8. 1 Centennial Report Rick Jacobson gave each Commission member a copy of a flyer which outlines the Golden Valley Centennial events. Old Business Rick Jacobson reported on the Lions Club Patio Dedication which was very successful. New Business Rick Jacobson reported that Hal Younghans had submitted his resignation from the Open Space Commission due to conflicts in his schedule.
