Members present: Chair Pat Borchert, Jim Johnson, Chuck Burmeister, Rich Krahulec, Tom Zins,
George Murad, Julie Bergh. Also present were Al Lundstrom, City Forester; Rick Birno, Rick Ja-
cobson and Sharyl Thompson.
There were no agenda changes or additions.
MINUTES
A motion was made by Jim Johnson and seconded by Chuck Burmeister to accept the minutes of
October 28, 1991. Motion carried.
FORESTRY REPORT
Al Lundstrom showed slides of the forestry program. He also presented a written report. On April
2, 1992, Al will be giving a seminar on tree trimming at Brookview Community Center. This semi-
nar will be free to residents.
RECREATION REPORT RICK BIRNO
Rick Birno reviewed the proposed summer playground and athletic program outlines for 1992. He
pointed out that the format of Nature Camp will be changed and T -ball will be offered in the
mornings and afternoons. Because of the addition of another pitching machine, supervised batting
will be permanent at three parks.
It was mentioned that Rick Birno was honored with the MRPA President's Award at the recent
MRPA Conference.
BRIARWOOD NATURE AREA CORRESPONDENCE
A resident had written a letter concerning the cutting of trees in the Briarwood area. Tom Klatt,
Street and Parks Superintendent, called the person to explain that hazardous trees and downed
trees were removed for safety reasons.
Chuck Burmeister suggested that the Chair send the resident a letter thanking him for sharing his
concerns with the City, and distribute this response to all neighbors explaining what has happened.
It was consensus of the Commission that the response from staff was sufficient.
MICHELE BIX
Rick Jacobson reported that Michele Bix will no longer be serving on the Open Space Commission
due to health problems. The Commissioners expressed their appreciation to Michele for her
contributions on the Open Space and Recreation Commission.
POOL COMMITTEE REPORT
Rick Jacobson reported that ten requests for proposal were sent, and seven were returned. Four
architects will be interviewed in February.
