8-24-1992OPEN SPACE & RECREATION COMMISSION August 24, 1992 Members present: Tom Zins, Julie Bergh, Jim Johnson, Marshall Rappaport, Mike Mauren, George Murad. Also present were Rick Birno, Rick Jacobson, Sharyl Thompson, and Tim Gremmer and Rick Johnson from Gremmer-Ohm; in addition, the following members of the Outdoor Pool Task Force were present: Kathy Gottsaker, Linda Farnham, Bob Shaffer, Charles Cahill, Marti Micks, Dede Scanlon, Al Anderegg and Larry Chiat. AGENDA CHANGES OR ADDITIONS Rick Jacobson said he wanted to comment briefly on the following: 1 Tour de French 2� Adopt -A -Park program MINUTES A motion was made by Marshall Rappaport and seconded by George Murad to approve the minutes of July 27, 1992. Motion carried. JOINT MEETING WITH OUTDOOR POOL TASK FORCE Rick Johnson from Gremmer-Ohm Architects presented the conceptual drawing of the pool, during which several general questions were asked. Julie Bergh suggested that a wheelchair be available at the pool for use by the disabled. There was some discussion as to when to have the public information meetings. Dede Scanlon said she would call Noble School to see about having one meeting at that location. The other meeting will be held at Brookview Community Center. The dates discussed were October 13th and 22nd. Rick Johnson said he would send Rick Jacobson some information on operating costs for a pool. BROOKVIEW COMMUNITY CENTER POLICY A motion was made by Julie Bergh and seconded by Jim Johnson to approve adding a category of fees for use of Brookview community Center. This would allow parties of 75 people or less to use the Willow Room and kitchen for up to 4 hours at a cost of $25.00 per hour for a Golden Valley resident, and $35.00 per hour for a non-resident. Motion carried. TOUR DE FRENCH Rick Jacobson reported that there will be a bike ride and festival sponsored by Hennepin Parks and local communities called 'Tour de French". One segment will go through Golden Valley to French Park. The Golden Valley seniors will be providing a water stop at Scheid Park as well as participating in the ride. The purpose of the event is to increase awareness of regional and local trails, as well as promote outdoor family activities. ADOPT -A -PARK Rick Jacobson said that an Adopt -A -Park program is being started, focusing on clean-up of parks and open space areas.
