3-23-1999OPEN SPACE & RECREATION COMMISSION March 23, 1999 Members in attendance: Roger McConico, Linda Loomis, Liz Elder, Jim Vaughan, Jerry Sandler, Tom Zins and Jim Sicora. Also present were Barbara Bailey, Sharyl Thompson and Rick Jacobson. There were no agenda changes or additions. MINUTES A motion was made by Roger McConico and seconded by Liz Elder to approve the minutes of January 25th and February 22"d. Motion carried. SENIOR PROGRAM UPDATE Barbara Bailey distributed the 1998 annual report for the senior citizens program. She highlighted some of the trips, events and special interest groups. The Commission commended her on a job well done. SALE OF CITY LOT There was discussion as to whether or not the City should sell the vacant lot adjacent to Floyd Anderson's home. Tom Zins felt that if some day a direct access from Schaper Park to this lot could be created, it would be a nice extension. A motion was made by Tom Zins and seconded by Jim Sicora to recommend to City Council not to sell this lot, review the present zoning, and if properly zoned, then designate it as open space. If the Council desires, they could request the Open Space & Recreation Commission to propose possible uses of the site. Motion carried, 6 yes, 1 abstention. SCHAPER PARK AWARD Rick Jacobson displayed an award given by the Consulting Engineers of Minnesota honoring the Schaper Park development. Barr Engineering nominated the project.
