10-8-12Golden Valley Human Services Fund (GVHSF) Meeting Minutes October 8, 2012 Present: Hilmer Erickson, Kathryn Frommer, Elissa Heilicher, Alan Ingber, Diane Nimmer, Connie Sandler, and Peggy Watkins. Also present: Jeanne Fackler, Staff Liaison. Not Attending: Katie Hart, Brenda Hayle, Toots Vodovoz Call to Order: Sandler called the meeting to order at 6:50 p.m. Agenda Changes or Additions:: No changes or additions to the agenda. September 10 minutes: Erickson moved and Heilicher seconded the motion to approve the minutes from September 10. The motion passed unanimously. New Event: Sandler has been playing "phone tag" with the TC Gay Men's Chorus Director. Breck has given Sandler a list of available dates for the concert. Looking for a Spring date. Canvas Health/Crisis Connection: January -June 2012, 216 calls from zip code 55426. Offer 24- hour crisis line. GVHSF funds will be used to continue phone support. Crisis Nursery: Thirty-three children from 24 families received services. Offer a 24-hour crisis line which does not track place of residence. Funds from GVHSF provide support and care to families in crisis. Dinner At Your Door: Thirty residents received hot meals 5 days/week. GVHSF funds are used to supplement clients unable to afford delivery and subsidize meals costs. GVHSF funds are more than 20% of donations received. Home Free: Forty-five new domestic violence incidents, advocacy to 56 residents, 28 new arrests. GVHSF funds are used to support the Domestic Assault Intervention Project. PRISM: 1,400 visits to Food Shelf, 1,702 visits to Clothes Closet, Homeless Prevention to 28 families, 16,060 rides on PRISM Express, School supplies to 88 children and Holiday Gifts for 205 children. GVHSF funds used to provide emergency and support services. Senior Community Services HOME: In 2011 HOME provided 2,023 hours of service completing 532 jobs to 81 individuals in Golden Valley. GVHSF funds were used to fund the sliding fee scale to assist low-income seniors. Senior Community Services Outreach: In 2011 Outreach served 106 residents, plus 44 people received Health Insurance Counseling at Brookview. Outreach averaged 4 to 5 visits per resident. GVHSF funds were used for direct service. TreeHouse: Staff made 450+ contacts and provided services to 24 teens from Golden Valley. Total number of teens assisted through GVHSF funds was 424. GVHSF funds were used to offset the cost of transporting teens to the TreeHouse facility in New Hope and St. Louis Park. YMCA: Applying for funds to support after school programming at Common Bond and the Golden Valley Library. In 2011, 11 programs served 100 Golden Valley youth and their families. Fackler will contact PRISM and ask for a representative to attend the November meeting. A recommendation to the Council for allocations will be finalized at that meeting. Other Business: Farmers Market: The Farmer's Market was reviewed. The Commission feels the Farmer's Market is a great place to have information on the GVHSF it is not necessary to man a booth. Community Foundation: Sandler reported the CF board is meeting with city staff next week. They are in the process of writing a solicitation letter. Sandler reported that approximately $2,500 was raised through the solicitation letter for the GVHSF. Sandler announced the next meeting is November 12 at 6:30 p.m. PRISM will be first on the agenda.
