02/05/68 CSC MinutesGOLDEN VALLEY CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION Minutes of February 5, 1968 Meeting 1 E C Glass was elected secretary of the Commission. 2 Advertising for applicants for Police Patrolman was discussed. The advertisement has previously been placed in the morning and evening Minneapolis papers with 16 applicants resulting. This coming week we will advertise four additional days in these papers and in the Suburban Press papers. Additionally the advertisement will be placed in next Sunday Tribune's sport page, and in various out of town papers at Chairman Erickson's dis- cretion. 3 State Civil Service Commissioner John Jackson has been asked by Chairman Erickson when the request for veterans preference should be submitted. Mr Jackson's opinion was that they should be sub- mitted following the written examination. After considerable discussion, the Commission agreed to seal these requests in an envelope to be opened after the combined grades have been es- tablished. it 4 The changes in the veterans preference law was considered. In promotional examinations the law now provides that five points are to be added to a veterans examination grade before or after the examination by election of the candidate. However, the five point advantage can be used only once in gaining a promotion. 5 The work of William L Sullivan employed since September 1, 1967 was reviewed. The Commission voted that he be certified to a permanent status as Police Patrolman. 6 The schedule for the Police Patrolman examination was reviewed. All applications are to be received by February 23. They will be checked for eligibility by the secretary and returned to the Police Department office by February 26 so that notices can be sent out immediately for the written examination scheduled March 9. Also on the 26th the secretary is to notify the State Commission of the number of test booklets required. The written examination is to be held at Meadowbrook School beginning at 9:00 a.m. The written examinations are to be reviewed on March 18 following grading by the State office. This reviewal presently is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. in Chief Frandsen's office. The oral examination is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. March 30 and possibly on April 6 if additional time is needed.
