10-12-20 HSC Minutes October 12, 2020–6:45pm Webex REGULAR MEETING MINUTES 1. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:45pm by Chair La Mere-Anderson. 2. Roll Call Commissioners present: Aaron Black, Esther Black,Elizabeth Burwell, Stephanie Devitt, Hilmer Erickson, Denise La Mere-Anderson, Caitlin Peick, Jake Rudeen, and Toots Vodovoz Commissioners absent: None Staff present: Brian Erickson, Staff Liaison and Sheila Van Sloun, Administrative Assistant, and Kimberly Sanberg, City Council 3. New Member Elizabeth Burwell La Mere-Anderson introduced Burwell, who then gave a brief introduction of herself to the commission. Each Commissioner then introduced themselves. 4. Approval of September 8, 2020 – Regular Meeting Minutes Corrections were made to the spelling of Damascus Way in item 4A and the spelling of commissioner La Mere-Anderson in item 4B. MOTION made by Aaron Black and seconded by Hilmer Erickson to approve the September 8, 2020 regular meeting minutes as amended. Motion carried unanimously. 5. New Business A. Budget La Mere-Anderson shared the budget and discussed each line item. She also discussed their increased allocation amount of $125K to accommodate the needs of the community during the pandemic. Commissioners then briefly discussed the effects of COVID-19 on the budget. B. Council Presentation – November 7 Erickson shared details on the upcoming Golden Valley Human Services Commission annual report to Council, which will be presented virtually on November 7, 2020 by Chair La Mere- Anderson and Vice-chair Black. La Mere-Anderson invited all the Commissioners to attend. C. Solicitation Letter Erickson shared details on the annual solicitation letter that is mailed to all Golden Valley residents, along with some businesses. The letter shares information on the efforts of the Human Service Commission and requests donation to support those efforts. He said the letter will be mailed at the end of November. City of Golden ValleyHuman Services Commission Regular Meeting Minutes 2 October 12, 2020 6.Old Bu siness A.Greens Classic Update Erickson said the event took place on September 14 with great weather. He said there were 20 golfers and 16 lawn bowlers. The event net was $1,200. B.Allocation Decisions La Mere-Anderson gave a recap and shared details on the allocation decisions made at the September meeting. She also said that after discussion with the city Finance Director, it has been determined that an additional $5K may be allocated in 2021. After discussion, La Mere- Andersonpolled theCommissioners and concluded that the additional $5K would be distributed as follows: Damascus Way............ $1,675 Senior Outreach........... $1,675 PRISM .......................... $1,650 7.Adjournment MOTION moved by Hilmer Ericksonand seconded by AaronBlack to adjourn at 8:10pm.
