The Village Council of the Village of Golden Valley
met at the Village Hail on January 7, 1947. Present: The
President, Harold Swenson and Trustees Frandsen, Pinch and
Putnam. Absent: Trustee Reiss.
The minutes of the regular meeting held December 17,
1946 were read, and on motion of Trustee Pinch, approved.
Treasurer's Annual Report for 1946 dated January 3, 1947
was read by the Village Treasurer, George L. Casey, and copy
was placed on file.
The President discussed the matter of appointments and
offered the following suggestions: to head Road and Bridge
Committee, Chas. Frandsen; Poor and Relief Committee, Hans
Reiss; Finance Chairman, to be established to work with
Clerk and Treasurer, W. k. Pinch; License Committee, Putnam.
Frandsen requested a letter outlining the duties of the
Road and Bridge Committee. Following the request by Putnam
to be allowed to decline the appointment, the matter of
appointing a License Chairman was left over for consideration
at the next meeting.
The following motion by Putnam, seconded by Pinch: To
confirm the appointment of Frandsen as Chairman of Road and
Bridge Committee; Reiss as Chairman of Poor & Relief Commit-
tee; Pinch as Finance Chairman, received the following Vote:
Frandsen, Pinch, Putnam, Swenson - YES.
Following the recommendation of the 'resident that
Charles Lindrud be appointed Constable to fill the unexpired
term of Hubert Nelson expiring December 31, 1947 it was so
moved and seconded by Frandsen and Pinch respectively, and
received the following vote: Frandsen, Pinch, Putnam, and
Swenson - Yes.
The President recommended the appointment of Arthur
Nelson for Village Attorney. Following a general discussion
of the needs for legal counsel and the amount of fees to be
paid no action was taken and it was determined to delay
the appointment to a following meeting.
Following recommendation of the President that Arno
Denzin be road supervisor for the year 1947 at a fixed
salary of $240.00 per month, Mr. Denzin stated that he
wished to be re -appointed at 4250.00 per month plus time
and a half for overtime. Motion by Frandsen seconded by
Pinch to defer setting of all salaries until the next meet-
ing of the Council was unanimously approved.
Motion by Frandsen seconded by Putnam to take froa, the
table an ordinance regulating amusements was unanimously
approved. Motion by Frandsen seconded by Putham to table
said ordinance likewise unanimously approved.

Motion by Frandsen seconded by Pinch to give a
second reading to"An Ordinance Amending an Ordinance
Providing for Licensing of Taxicabs and Private Liv-
ORDI"IANTCE eries and Regulating Their Operation in the V'illageof
BOOK P.5 Golden Valley" and to publish that ordinance in the
Robbinsdale Post received the following vote:
Frandsen, Pinch, Putnam, Swenson - Yes.
Motion by Frandsen, seconded by Pinch, that the
Clerk write L. P. Zimmerman, County Highway kngineeer,
re guesting SLOW signs at the intersection of Meadow Lane
with Glenwood Avenue and the establishment of s, 30 -rile
speed limit on Glenwood Avenue from the city limits
westerly to intersection with Sixth Avenue North, and
the installation of 30 -mile speed signs, was unanimously
approved.
Copy of a letter dated January 2, 1947 over the
signature of E. T. Rydell, Secretary Protem of the
Golden Valley Planning Commission, and addressed to
Mr. Arthur T. Felson was read, requesting that the
Village Attorney inform the Building Inspector which
ordinance has been violated in the matter of the plac-
ing of the Thomey house.
