SPECIAL MEETING
OF THE
CITY COUNCIL January 22, 1979
A special meeting of the City Council of the City of Golden Valley, Hennepin
County, Minnesota was held at 7800 Golden Valley Road in said -City on January
22, 1979•
All members were present.
The purpose of the meeting was to review the Senior/Community Center Task Force
report. Present from the Task Force were: Dan Taborn, Doug Hoescher, Frankie
France]. Staff included: Barbara Bailey, John Brenna, Dave Latvaaho and Bob
Van Hoe, consulting architect.
Council raised questions concerning the contents of the report by the Senior/
Community Center Task Force. Council then took the following action:
1) Moved by Thorsen, seconded by Johnson and carried unanimously to authorize
the Senior/Community Center Task Force to hold informational meetings with
the Council holding a public hearing on the matter on March 28th at 7:30 p.m.
2) It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Stockman to authorize the City Manager
to meet with the Golden Valley School Board to discuss the report of the
Senior/Community Center Task Force and to meet with potential corporate
doners to determine the feasibility,of. financing the renovation of the
middle school and to meet with prospective tenants to consider rental
of unused space in the Middle School. Motion passed unanimously.
3) It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Thorsen that it is the Council's
intent not to make a decision of the future of Brookview until a decision
has been made on the need for a new Senior/Community Center. Motion
carried unanimously.
4) Moved by Anderson, seconded by Johnson to receive the communication from
Dennis Carlson. Motion carried unanimously.
Moved by Thorsen, seconded by Anderson to adjourn at 8:20 p.m.
