Special Meeting
of the
City Council
April 24, 1980
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a special meeting of the City Council of the
City of Golden Valley, Hennepin County, Minnesota was held at 7800 Golden Valley Road
in said City on April 24, 1980 at 7:25 P.M.
The following members were present: Anderson, Johnson, Mitchell, Stockman and Thorsen.
Also present was City Manager, Jeff Sweet.
Senior/Community Center
MOVED by Mitchell, seconded by Anderson and carried to approve the concept of a
Senior/Community Center at Winnetka & Highway #55, as well as a banquet center at
Brookview, and further, to direct the Manager to prepare an analysis of the capital
and expenses and revenue projections for operating a facility with: (1) Basic
building, gym, racquetball courts, and indoor pool; (2) Basic building, gym,
racquetball courts, and outdoor pool, and; (3) Basic building, gym, racquetball
courts and both an indoor and outdoor pool, the location of either or both pools
to be at Brookview. This analysis is to be presented to the Council at the
Council/Manager meeting of May 27, 4:30 P.M.
MOVED by Johnson, seconded by Mitchell and carried to request the Mayor write a
letter to the Open Space & Recreation Commission and the Brookview Study Committee
thanking them for their efforts and for the staff to refer its analysis of the costs of
operating the three above-described configurations to the Open Space & Recreation
Commission for their comment, prior to review by the City Council.
Councilmembers Anderson and Johnson volunteered to serve on a subcommittee to prepare
questions and issues relative to the decision of an indoor pool versus an outdoor pool.
