5.Golden Valley Girls Softball Update –Lenny Segal
Lenny Segal, current President,and Amanda DeRaad, Treasurer and President-elect,shared a brief
introduction of the Golden Valley Girls Softball program. Segal saidthey had 250 participants in 2021.
Participants in the program are both residents and non-residents.
Commissioner Cornelius asked how they market their program. Segal said they have used
newsletters and mailed postcards in the past. More recently, they have usedPeachjar, a digital flyer
program, which has been very effective.Commissioner Kuebelbeck suggested hosting an
informational table with flyers at community events.
Commissioner Weiswerda inquired about a starter program with less commitment for younger kids.
Segal said they have done winter clinics and rookie camps. Commissioner Kuebelbeck said Golden
Valley Parksand Recreation T-ball and Pitch by Coach offeredball programs for younger kids, with
some going on to play in the softballprogram. She suggested collaborating with surrounding cities to
recruit participants. Commissioner Speltz suggested offering a program for younger ages.

Segal also added that having enough volunteers has been a challenge for the program.
Commissioner Sanders asked about program needs from the City. Segal said more restrooms would
be very helpful, along with a new chalk machine. Staff member Birno said he’d be happy to work on
accommodating those requests, and encouraged him to share future requests and needs.
Commissioner Cornelius shared concern on sponsorship banners around the dugout areas blocking
spectator views at games. Segal said they would look at different options for displaying the banners
next year. Discussion then focused on sponsorship sign ideas.
6. Ash Tree Injection Program Proposal
Commissioner Mattison introduced the agenda item sharing that staff members Birno and
Lundstrom had attended a meeting with Commissioner Mattison and Golden Valley Community
Foundation Chair, Dean Penk, regarding Ash tree injections. The meeting discussion centered on a
preliminary concept for implementing an Ash tree injection program for key tree assets in park
locations. Commissioner Mattison and staff member Birno shared information on Ash tree injections
and noted it costs approximately $175 per tree to protect it for 2-3 years. The focus of the proposed
concept would be on identifying key high value ash trees throughout the park system, along with
possibly developing a campaign for fundraising.
After Commissioners discussed program details and fundraising ideas, staff member Birno suggested
working with staff member Lundstrom to quantify the number of trees in the park system which
would benefit from an injection program. Birno said he would work with Lundstrom to analyze data,
develop an estimate, and schedule discussion for a future meeting.
7. Winter Warming House Staffing – Operation Plan
Staff member Birno shared the operation plan for warming houses this season. He said they plan to
staff all six warming houses through mid-January. After mid-January, all six warming houses will
remain open, however some may be staffed full-time, and others staffed intermittently. Efforts will
continue for recruiting warming house attendants throughout the season.
8. 2022 Agenda Items
Staff member Birno shared information on some of the larger projects coming in 2022 that the
Commission will be involved with. They will include: Wildwood Flood Reduction Plan, Medley Park
Storm Water Improvement Plan, naming policy discussion, design proposals for the 2023 Scheid Park
and potential Gearty Park improvements, community garden development, and proposed park
shelter building improvements. Commissioners requested that pickleball and city reciprocity be
added to those items.

9. Commission and Staff Updates
a. Commissioner Updates
Commissioner Weiswerda shared concern on the lack of crosswalk markings in turn lanes at the
intersections on Hwy 55 and Winnetka, and Hwy 55 and Boone. Staff member Birno said he
would share the concern with engineering staff.
b. Wesley Park Outdoor Hockey Rink Complete
Staff member Birno said the hockey rink at WesleyPark is complete and ready for the winter
season. He said they plan to use the same rink system city-wide.
c. Backyard Open
Staff member Birno said the Brookview Backyard is currently open and is doing well. Capacity is
limited and disinfecting cleanings take place between 2-3 pm daily.
d. Golf Course Final Day Sunday, November 7
Staff member Birno said the golf course closed for the season on Sunday, November 7 afteran
amazing year. He said Ben Disch, Golf Course Manager, is looking forward to sharing an update at
a future meeting.
e. Winter Ski Trail Light Poles, Curling Rinks, and Disc Golf Baskets
Staff member Birno said trail lights, curling rinks, and disc golf baskets have all been installed and
ready for the winter season. He added the curling leagues begin November 29 and are completely
full.
f. Next meeting is scheduled for January 24 – no meeting in December
Staff member Birno reminded the Commission there is no meeting scheduled in December.
The next regular meeting is on Monday, January 24 at Brookview.

OPERATIONS, PROCEDURES AND COURSE REGULATIONS
IT IS THE INTENT AND PURPOSE OF BROOKVIEW GOLF COURSE & LAWN BOWLING TO
PROVIDE THE BEST POSSIBLE PLAYING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT FOR THE
ENJOYMENT OF ALL GOLFERS AND LAWN BOWLERS WHO UTILIZE THE AMENITIES.
Brookview Golf Course & Lawn Bowling is owned and operated by the City of Golden Valley under the
direction of the Parks and Recreation Department.
The golf course is located at 316 Brookview Parkway South, Golden Valley, Minnesota, 55426. The

The operations, procedures, and regulations document is reviewed and recommended for implementation
by the Open Space & Recreation Commission annually or anytime there is a proposed change to the
operation procedures and/or fees.
ANNUAL GOLF SEASON & AMENITIES
The seasonal opening and closing of the golf course and lawn bowling green is dictated by the
weather. As a general rule, the main season will commence in April and run through the end of
October. Golf staff does install temporary holes on the regulation course and keep the driving range
nets up if weather allows temporary late season and early season play. It should also be noted that the
golf operation operates 36 winter disc golf holes, pub curling rinks and a lighted winter groomed cross-
country ski trail during the winter months on the golf course.
Hours of operation vary with the weather and the hours of daylight. Generally, the course is open at
6:30am and offers a final tee time at 8:00pm. This adjusts as daylight changes throughout the season.

GOLF COURSE REGULATIONS
It is the responsibility of golf course management to coordinate all operations and enforce the rules
and regulations of the golf and lawn bowling operation
18 Hole Regulation Course - children under 10 years of age are not permitted at any time.
Youth ages 10 - 12 must be accompanied by an adult while on the regulation golf course at all
times.
Par 3 Course and Driving Range - No one under 4 years of age is permitted at any time.
Children 4 - 9 years of age may play the Par 3 course or use the Driving Range if accompanied
by an adult. Children 10 and older may use the driving range and Par 3 course
unaccompanied.
Every golfer on the course must purchase a ticket and make it available when checked by the
golf starter or ranger.
The golf starter/golf shop staff shall be responsible for assigning foursomes and placing them
on the course. Fivesomes will generally not be permitted unless approved by the Golf Course
Management.
It is recommended that all golfers check in at the Golf Shop ten minutes prior to their tee time.
Every golfer must have a set of clubs (4 minimum) and bag before teeing off.
Golfers must be properly attired. Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times while on the golf
complex.
Persons using the driving range at Brookview and all golf course amenities assume the risk of
injury incident to the game of golf, including, but not limited to, being struck by golf
balls. Players are hereby warned to remain attentive to golf balls struck by members of their
group, by other persons using the golf course, and persons using the driving range to the left of
the first fairway. Golfers are responsible for the ball they hit. If lightning is seen, please seek
shelter or return to the clubhouse.
Rain checks for golf and golf carts: Golf and cart rain checks will be provided for storm/rain
events only. For a nine-hole Par 3 course or 9 hole Regulation course round a rain check will
be provided if 4 holes or less have been completed. For an eighteen-hole regulation course
round a rain check will be provided if 12 holes or less have been completed.
Walk-a-longs and ride-a-longs are generally not allowed. The exceptions are MGA or
Minnesota High School League sponsored events. During these sponsored events walk/riders
will be required to sign a waiver and will be expected to pay a fee to be on the course.
Caddies carrying clubs are allowed.
Individuals must be a minimum of 16 years of age and have a valid driver’s license to rent and
operate a motorized golf cart.
No more than 2 riders are allowed on a motorized cart.
Power carts must be kept at least 30 feet from tee boxes and greens.
A fee will be charged and a waiver signed for all golfers using privately owned electric or
motorized golf carts on Brookview Golf Course.
Brookview Golf Cart Statement: Any person using their own motorized golf cart, or persons
leasing from Brookview Golf Course, shall save, defend, and hold Brookview Golf Course
harmless from any claim or damage that may result from said use, whether such damage be to
the property or person of the users or employees, or property of Brookview Golf Course, the
property of persons or others.
Golf cart refunds or rainchecks will not be issued on additional carts that have to be rented by
Brookview Golf Course for private tournaments or group events.
Any damage caused to a motorized golf cart due to negligence and or abuse of the vehicle will
be billed to the renter of the cart
All non-golfers including walkers, dog-walkers, bird feeders, bicycle riders, picnickers, ball
pickers or any other unauthorized person shall not be permitted on the course areas when in
operation.
A golfer may be asked to leave the course when he/she cannot reasonably hit the ball or keep
up with the normal pace of a public golf course. A full refund will be issued.
No person shall play golf on the course after it has been closed by the course Maintenance
Supervisor or his designee because of weather or specific maintenance needs. Cart usage is
also regulated by the course management.
Golf privileges may be revoked for persons who submit false information for the purpose of
securing golfing privileges.
No private coolers or outside beverages are allowed. All beverages must be purchased on the
premises.
Golf rangers and authorized employees are responsible for orderly play, general policing of the
course and seeing that the overall speed of play is reasonably maintained. They may remove
a golfer or golfers from the course for any flagrant violations of course rules and conduct such
as obnoxious behavior, intoxication, fighting, damage to the course, failure to follow course
design from a hole-to-hole basis, improper use of motorized golf carts, and abusive behavior
toward other golfers and/or golf course employees.
During the 2022 season, all golfers are required to follow the updated requirements of the
State of Minnesota and the CDC and all City of Golden Valley “Golfing during COVID-19”
policies and procedures.
Course construction during the 2022 season: Brookview will be replacing the 37 year old
irrigation system beginning the spring of 2022.The course will remain open during construction
and for the most part the installation of the system will only be scheduled for Mondays –
Thursdays each week until completed. The replacement of the irrigation system may require
the closing of a specific golf hole from time to time and therefore a secondary golf hole may
need to be played twice to complete a round of 18. Information regarding any short-term
course adjustments will be posted in the pro shop, on the course and on the Brookview Golf
website as needed. If the installation project begins to impact golf rounds negatively at points
during the project, the Golf Maintenance Supervisor will make a recommendation to the Golf
Manager to temporarily reduce golf round prices until appropriate play can be restored. All
price adjustments, if needed, will also be posted in the pro shop and on the Brookview Golf
website.
FOOD & BEVERAGES
All food and beverages available at Brookview Golf Course and Lawn Bowling are provided by
the Three One Six Bar + Grill. Only alcohol purchased from the Three One Six is allowed at
Brookview.
The Three One Six Bar + Grill is operated year-round.
The Brookview banquet rooms, decks, and patios are available for rental. Brookview facilities
can be reserved and partnered with registered caterers & 316 Bar & Grill beverage services.
Reservations can be made by contacting the Parks and Recreation office 763-512-2345.
Brookview provides beverage carts throughout the course with a large selection of beverages
and pre-packaged snacks during busy times.
Tournament “beverage carts” and or alcohol sample hole sponsors are not allowed on the
course at any time unless staffed and provided by Brookview. Sponsors of golf tournaments or
outings who desire to provide their participants with beverages may do so only by purchasing
product through the Three One Six Bar + Grill.
RESERVATIONS, CLUB MEMBER CARDS, LEAGUES, TOURNAMENTS & GROUPS

Reservations can be made for the Par 3 golf course by contacting the Par 3 building at 763-
512-2333 or at www.brookviewgolf.com.
Club Member card holders are allowed to make reservations up to seven days in advance.
The general public are allowed to schedule tee times up to five days in advance.
A Club Member card entitles its holder to a discount on green fees and power carts, advanced
reservation privileges, driving range, merchandise, and food and beverage discounts. Club
Member cards may be purchased by residents or non-residents of Golden Valley.
Senior Club Member Card Holders are entitled to all club member privileges, plus benefits of
the senior golf program on weekday mornings.
All persons with reservations that wish to cancel a tee time are required to cancel a minimum
of 2 hours in advance of their scheduled tee time. Failure to do so will result in being billed for
all no-shows in that time slot. If a member card holder cancels within the two hour restriction,
member card privileges will be suspended until payment is made.
Brookview Golf Course maintains the right to reserve reoccurring tee times for groups larger
than 16 golfers if course openings are available. Reoccurring tee time blocks are scheduled for
12-16 weeks upon approval by Brookview Golf Management. Golfers are required to tee off in
10-minute interval in groups of four people maximum.
BWGA & BMGA
The Brookview Women’s Golf Association (BWGA) and the Brookview Men’s Golf Association
(BMGA) are independently organized and operated by a group of men and women who play
regularly at Brookview Golf Course. They provide club affiliation and golfing events for their
members. The BWGA and BMGA must at all times perform their functions within the policies
and regulations approved by the Golden Valley Open Space and Recreation Commission and
Brookview Golf Management.
The BWGA has an 18-hole womens’ reoccurring tee time reservation on Tuesday mornings at
7:00a.m. as well as a Thursday morning 9-hole reoccurring tee time reservation beginning at
6:30a.m.
The BMGA provides a 9-hole reoccurring tee time reservation which plays on Wednesday
afternoons from 3:30-6:00 p.m. The organization also offers an 18-hole option which is played
on scheduled Saturday mornings from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. There are 3 additional weekend
events which include both Saturday and Sunday tee times from 6:30-8:30 a.m.
Those interested in joining the BMGA or the BWGA should contact the golf shop for
information.
Senior League Golf Program is scheduled weekday mornings before noon.
Seniors (60 or older) may play the regulation or Par 3 course for a reduced green fee on
Monday through Friday during designated times. Reservations must be made in advance and
tee times are based on availability. The senior discount is not valid on holidays, or for special
events.
Junior Golf Programs: Brookview Golf offers a number of junior golf opportunities for 17-year
olds and under. Please contact Brookview Golf at 763-512-2300 or at www.brookviewgolf.com
for information on all the programs available.
Tournaments: Brookview Golf Course welcomes the use of its facilities for group events and
for tournaments. The course is available for use on a limited basis throughout the golf season.
Contact Brookview Golf at 763-512-2330 for information regarding group events and or
tournaments at Brookview Golf Course. Group events and tournaments are required to pay full
green fees and cart fees at least 8 days prior to the event. Shotgun events will only be held
with a minimum of 100 and a maximum of 144 golfers.

Lawn Bowling rinks are available for rent on an hourly basis. The Lawn Bowling season typically
runs April-October. Single rink rentals can be reserved up to seven days in advance. Groups may
reserve single rinks, half green, or full green for private events. Game equipment is provided. Only
flat soled shoes, socks, or bare feet are allowed on the green. Reservations can be made by
calling 763-512-2300.
